Hi everyone,

We cannot put “Use as previously directed” on our prescription labels per AAHA.  We need to specifically put how to use the medication each time we make a label for a prescription for every patient every time. Thanks!

Please make sure you turn in your “be safe” test to me as soon as you get it done.  I know you will be super excited to hear that the second dvd and test just got here!!  Yay!  Please complete both tests and turn them into me by May 25th.  Thank you!

We have hired a biohazard company to pick up our sharps containers and biohazard bags.  Our first pick up will be Tuesday, May 21st then we are a standard every 28 day pick up after that.  Please DO NOT put the sharps containers out with the trash anymore. We will get a biohazard box next Tuesday.  We will probably keep it upstairs.  Please put all full sharps containers in there.  Continue to put all biohazard bags in the freezer.  I will pack the box on the Tuesday that they will pick up.  Thanks!

We need to do initial and annual training on CPR for our patients.  Please click on the following link to refresh your memory on the standard protocol for CPR. (Thanks for the link Dr. Rutsey)

Thank you for your cooperation with everything.  We need to do all these extra things for our AAHA accreditation.  I think once we do these things we should be all set for our inspection.  We need to set a date for our celebratory dinner!!!!!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Just a reminder that you need to view the Be Safe DVD and complete the test within the next week.  It is upstairs next to my desk with your tests.  Please hand in your written tests when you are finished to me.  We will be getting the other DVD this week.  We all will have to watch that one and complete the test too.

The MSDS forms had to be paper. There was a large fee to do it on the computer.  The forms are completed and located upstairs in the first storage room on the shelf if you ever need to find them.

The policy book and employee handbook are finished.  They are located upstairs in the first storage room on the shelf too.  Please look through them and let me know if you have any questions.  Please let me know if you’d like a copy of the employee handbook.

Please make sure we are completing all our forms, cage cards, exam sheets thoroughly.  Make sure you initial cage cards instead of marking an “X” and complete those as thoroughly as possible too.  If we have a hospitalized case, please make sure charges are put in each day with a cage card completed for the following day.

Also, please make sure cleaning and stocking are getting done daily.

Also, stay on top of appointments. Please stay aware of what patients are in what rooms, getting TPR’s, making sure you help out in the lobby getting appointments back.  I’ve been noticing that technicians didn’t know that appointments were here and that clients have been waiting or that a doctor is done in the room and needs a technician to finish the appointment and the technician isn’t aware of it.  It’s not happening often, but enough that I think we need to try to stay aware of what is going on so we can decrease the wait time and make the flow better.

This is a lot being thrown at you, I know, but we need to stay on top of everything. We have been very busy!  Everyone is doing a great job!  Keep up the great work!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Hi everyone,

We will be having a mandatory team meeting Thursday, May 9th to go over AAHA and OSHA.  There are tons of policies and training that are required by AAHA and OSHA so hopefully we can dive in and get through it all in one meeting!

When putting in charges for employee pets, please put the charges under Dr. Putt even if Dr. Rutsey saw your pet.

We will not be implementing the script right through our online store right now.  We are going to first see if there is a need for it.

4/30 memo

Trying to adhere to AAHA’s standards, we now have to file our PHCP contract separate from the medical record because it has credit/debit card info on it so it needs to stay “locked up” for security purposes.  So we now have two separate binders in the reception closet.  One for Pre-paid PHCP’s and one for monthly PHCP’s.  Please put any new contract in the back of the binder so it is filed oldest date on top to most current date on the bottom.  Make sense?  Let me know if you have any questions.

Please put all of Dr. Rutsey’s personal pets’ services, products, etc. under Dr. Putt as the provider.  Things get screwed up with Dr. Rutsey’s salary when she gets put in as the doctor.  Thank you.

We have Sentinel!  We are keeping heartgard for those people who want to use frontline or for those pets who love the chews.  We are also keeping trifexis for those pets we have started it on and for those people who don’t want to use anything topical.  but just very small quantities of each.  Sentinel/parastar is going to be the best coverage and the most economical for the clients.

Technical staff-I need your help on submitting x-ray studies to a certified radiologist for our AAHA accreditation.  If you could take that on, I would greatly appreciate it!!  See me for the details.

Congrats to everyone for Best of the Best!!  We need to set a date for a celebratory dinner and drinks!!  (Waiting for Dr. Putt’s schedule to slow down a little) Probably shcedule it in June!?

4/23 Memo

The “Contact Erika” is set now to come to my e-mail address ONLY so any message you send to me is private.  You just have to be sure to provide your e-mail address so that I can respond.

We need to implement a few things to pass AAHA inspection…

1. Write mls and mgs on all drug dosages.

2. Be sure to print an Emergency Drug Calculator form for each patient who is being anesthetised.

3.Everyone has an understanding of AAHA and it’s benefits.

4. Cap and mask MUST be worn in surgery AND for dental cleanings.  Do we have goggles designated for dentals only?? If not, I need to order some.

5. We now have a radiology log located in the radiology room that MUST be filled out for EVERY patient.

6. Surgical laundry needs to be washed separate from all other laundry.

This is just the beginning on the things we need to do for AAHA.  Please let me know what your thoughts are and any questions you have.

Check daily for updates. Thanks!

Memo 4/17

Hi everyone,

We are planning to be AAHA accredited no later than June.  With that being said, we need to make sure we are staying on top of cleaning.  Meaning taking the shop vac and moving things around and vacuuming in the corners and under things.  It’s not good enough just to do the center of the room.  Also filling out charts and all forms completely.  Meaning filling in the dates, names and all other areas completely. Please also double and triple check yourself when inputting charges and filling medications.  Making sure you are updating the quantity correctly with medications.  Please also make sure you let me know if you need any time off this summer a month before the schedule is posted so we can fill in where needed.  Commerce Village Vet will be in the Memorial day parade in Walled Lake.  Please let me know if you are interested in working that day and being in the parade with us!!  It’ll be fun!

Thanks,

Erika

Dawn, great job with taking pictures of all the patients and working so hard the week Sarah was gone!

Welcome to the Staff Portal!

Hello Commerce Village Vet Team,

Welcome to our new Staff Portal!  This will be a way for us to have great communication and make sure that everybody stays informed on the happenings around the hospital.  We will learn how to best utilize and use the portal together.

We will use the portal to post the employee schedule and memos.  I hope you all will use it to respond to memos, request time off, post questions, concerns, and ideas publicly or for my eyes only.  Please also post anything positive about a co-worker or maybe even a funny article or picture.

Please log in daily to be able to stay informed and either comment or initial on each memo after you have read it.

Thank you,
